Musical Events 2014-2015

Two of our advanced level students gave memorable performances in the ORMTA Zone and Provincial Competitions, with a stunning First Prize result for the student who competed at the Zone level (Gr. 8-9). Congratulations to those students and their proud families!!

Participation in the Kiwanis Music Festival resulted in a total of 20 prizes which included 9 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals. Four students were awarded scholarships and two students were invited to compete in the Kiwanis Music Festival Provincial Finals in Peterborough. Both performers performed beautifully and one was awarded third place out of 300 performers from across the province.

Other musical activities included: the Canadian Music Competition, the Canada Music Week Recital featuring four world premiere performances of new Canadian compositions, the ORMTA/University of Ottawa Masterclass, the ORMTA and GMTA First Class Honours Concert, the Gloucester Music Club, the Kanata Music Club, and the CFMTA Music Writing Competition with a First Prize in the 15 years and under category at the national level.

Thirteen students passed RCM exams with results of First Class Honours and First Class Honours with Distinction. The teaching year came to a close with an enjoyable student recital at MacKay United Church. The students played beautifully on the new Yamaha concert grand., followed by a reception with their families.
